Baldwin named TRIO Student Support Services Director

Heartland Community College has filled a position to support college students with disadvantaged backgrounds. 

Michelle Baldwin has been named HCC Director of TRIO Student Support Services. 

In her new position, Baldwin serves as the principal manager of the College’s Student Support Services (SSS) program, a federally funded TRIO grant project.  

Baldwin comes to Heartland Community College from Lincoln College, where she was an Associate Professor of English and previously served as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. She is a 2021 recipient of the National Society of Leadership and Success Excellence in Service to Students Award. 

She holds M.S. and B.S. degrees from Illinois State University and graduated from Lincoln College with an A.A. degree. 

TRIO Student Support Services receives federal funding from the Department of Education.

TRIO is not an acronym; it refers to a number (originally three, now eight) of U.S. federal programs to increase access to higher education for economically disadvantaged students. Federal TRIO Programs include: Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math/Science, Veterans' Upward Bound, Student Support Services, Educational Opportunity Centers, the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, and Training Grants.
