Joe McCauley Gallery Presents 'Falling In Between'

May 30, 2023

Heartland Community College presents the Joe McCauley Gallery summer exhibition, Falling in Between, featuring works by artist Peytin Fitzgerald.

Falling in Between showcases Fitzgerald's colorful and layered textile works. The works suggest the human body through color and form. Scars, bumps, deformity, and tension are implied through a playful juxtaposition of hand- and machine-stitched fabric.

The artist states their works often explore personal experiences of trauma, pain, feminism, and familial relationships.

“Creating a space for myself and others to take up space in this way is not an easy task, but one that I strive to continue to achieve,” said Fitzgerald. “Through my making, I utilize feminism to re-inhabit my past experiences and be more aware of my body in space. My work is about me and my experience in this life. I am inviting the viewer to sit within my vulnerability.”

The exhibit will be on display at Joe McCauley Gallery, located on the Normal, IL campus of Heartland Community College, through August 4, 2023.

The Gallery will hold an artist reception from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on June 20, 2023.
