Pontiac scholarship golf event raises over $69K for Heartland students
June 29, 2023Golfers and sponsors raised $69,743 for Livingston County students to learn at Heartland Community College.
The 15th Annual Heartland Community College Foundation Scoring FORE Scholarship event was held on June 2 at The Oaks at River’s Edge in Pontiac. Fifty-five teams participated in the event. All funds raised from the event are targeted to support access and learning opportunities for Livingston County students.
"Our partnership has opened the door to learning for so many people. From full scholarships to hundreds of students experiencing the Challenger Learning Center, we have improved the lives of so many," said Chris Downing, Executive Director of the Heartland Foundation.
Scoring FORE Scholarships, which is developed in collaboration with Caterpillar’s Pontiac facility, has impacted the lives of 70 students with over $360,000 in scholarship support since 2006.
“It is a privilege and pleasure to be part of an event that impacts the lives of students,” said Todd Crowe, Caterpillar Pontiac Facility Manager. “I have a great appreciation for the people and relationships that are connected to this event including community partners, business partners and very deserving scholarship recipients.”
Funds raised at the event will provide full-ride scholarships and book stipends to eight students from Livingston County as they pursue their educational dreams while studying math, business, science, technology, and pre-engineering.
The support will also make it possible for every junior high student in Livingston County to experience a Challenger Learning Center mission on the campus of Heartland Community College. More than 500 students will field trip to the Challenger Learning Center to inspire interest in STEM-related learning, responsibility, teamwork, and problem-solving.
