Heartland students place in National SkillsUSA Competition

June 10, 2026

Three Heartland Community College students demonstrated their hands-on job skills and earned national finishes at the SkillsUSA Championship Competition.

SkillsUSA is a national organization for students preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. Each spring, Illinois' best career and technical education students head to Peoria, IL, to showcase their ability to enter the workforce. Students test their skills in over 100 career competitions in the multi-day conference and competition.

All students placing in the top three at the state level were qualified to represent Illinois at the SkillsUSA National Championship held in Atlanta, Georgia on June 1-5.

Heartland’s national student award winners are:

Cami Nowlin (Bloomington): 2nd, Pin Design

Collin Lister (Normal): 6th, Electronics Technology

Mia Landu (Normal): 12th, Medical Terminology

Each year, a pin design is selected for each state and that pin is provided to every delegate, advisor, and participant from all competition levels. This year, Heartland’s own Cami Nowlin had her pin design selected to represent Illinois throughout the competition.

SkillsUSA is a national workforce development organization for students. Their goal is to empower students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members.
