Animals on Campus
Service Dogs
Services dogs that have been traind to do work or perform a task for an individual with a disability may accompany indiviudals on any HCC campus. For advocacy support related to Service Dogs, individuals can fill out the Animals on Campus Form or contact Student Access and Accommodation Services at accommodations@heartland.edu.
Emotional Support Dogs
Students interested in an Emotional Support Dog accompanying them to campus must follow the Emotional Support Dog Process each semester.
- Submit an Animal on Campus Form
- provide up to date vaccination records
- provide recent (within 12 months) documentation from a medical/mental health progessional indicating the need.
- Attend an meeting to discuss the submitted form.
- If approved, notification will be sent to instructors making them aware of the dogs attendance in class.
Removal of Animals
Regardless of the dog being a service dog or an emotional support dog they are expected to professional. Animals may be asked to leave the campus in the following circumstances:
- The dog is not housebroken
- The dog is not under the owner's direct control and/or is disterbing to the environment.
- The dogs behavior or actions is a risk or danger to people or property.
