Eligibility & Application
Eligibility for the Program
Appropriate candidates for Heartland's HALO Program have:
- A history of receiving special education services
- Reading, math and written language skills at a third grade level or above
- Isolated skill deficiencies may be acceptable depending on the overall ability
- The ability to participate in most of the program or class activities
- Sufficient emotional stability to adjust to all aspects of the program
**Meeting these criteria does not guarantee admission into the HALO program. Potential candidates must complete the application process to be considered for the HALO program.
Apply to HALO
To be considered for the HALO program, applicant should:
- Schedule a Campus Visit
- Complete and submit all Application Materials
Application Materials:
- HALO Application
- Official High School Transcripts (This can be attached to the application if you have a digital copy, or it can be submitted separately.)
- Junior Year IEP (This can be attached to the application if you have a digital copy, or it can be submitted separately.)
- TWO HALO Recommendation Forms
- HALO Exemption Request Form (PDF) (optional)
The application and recommendation forms will be sent to HALO automatically upon submission. All additional application materials can be sent via email to halo@heartland.edu or dropped off at the HALO offices. All materials must be submitted by July 7, 2025.
**When all compenents of the application have been received, an interview will be scheduled to ensure the program is a good match for the student's needs and goals.**
