Southeast Asian Cultural Festival

Heartland Community College, in collaboration with Illinois State University, is hosting a four-day Southeast Asian Cultural Festival the week of April 1-4.

  • April 1-2 at Heartland Community College
  • April 3-4 at Illinois State University

The festival will feature lectures and demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts, including intercultural practices such as mindfulness, street food, body art, etc. The main event will be a film screening of Cirque du Cambodia along with a Q&A with director Joel Gershon.

Additionally, featured discussions by visiting scholars include:

  • Dr. Mai Nguyen Lisovich – Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Van Lang University, Vietnam
  • Dr. Katherine L. Bruhn, Assistant Professor, Global Art and Visual Culture, Illinois State University
  • Mr. Robby Anggriawan, doctoral student in Curriculum & Instruction, Illinois State University

These events are free to attend and are open to the community.

This event is funded by several grants including:

  • The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at Indiana University. The program is intended to bridge the humanities and business worlds to show that working artists and craftsman need and apply both humanities and technical education.
  • The Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LASS) Mini-grant. The program is intended to increase the significance and impact of LASS curriculum (programs, courses, clubs, etc.) both internally and externally.
  • Heartland Foundation Funding Priority which supports students and key institutional needs.

Events at HCC will be at the Main Campus (1500 W. Raab Road, Normal).
