Philosophy Information

  • Become a great critical thinker and reflective leader as you explore mankind's social, ethical and personal issues through the ages. In the process, you'll analyze challenging texts and have the opportunity to build well-founded and logical arguments to support your conclusions

  • Philosophy courses offered at HCC include Ethics, History of Philosophy, Introduction to Non-Western Philosophy and Logic. In addition, students of philosophy meet informally twice a month to discuss broad global topics in a philosophical context

  • The thinking skills you cultivate in philosophy courses are transferable to almost any academic discipline or occupation. Specific careers associated with a philosophy background can include:

    • Government/Social Service
    • Healthcare/Medicine
    • Journalism
    • Law
    • Teaching/Consulting
    • Theology/Ministry
    • Writing/Editing
  • Earn your Heartland degree and transfer to a four-year college or university:

Associate in Arts - Concentration in Philosophy

If you plan to complete the first two years of study at Heartland and then continue your studies as a philosophy major at a four-year institution in Illinois, the Associate in Arts (AA) transfer preparation program is the path for you.
