Student Experiences

“The Honors program has been a great way to get to know other hardworking students at Heartland. We have teachers that are really invested in our success and they encourage us to be active members of the community around us. I have learned so much from this program and would highly recommend it to anyone that is thinking about joining.”

“Not only has the Honors Program showed me how to work 110%, but I had to learn how to think outside the box when it came to leadership. This past year becoming President of Phi Theta Kappa there were some big shoes to fill. Knowing how to deal with technology issues, a pandemic, and a system crash, we definitely had our work cut out for us. I enjoyed having the opportunity to show my leadership skills along with doing multiple projects in the Honors Program. I encourage anyone who has the chance to join to also be a part of the Phi Theta Kappa officer team; it is a time well spent with getting to know the whole class and show how much you are willing to work with them.”

"I enjoyed my time at Heartland Community College and the Honors Program played a large part in why I had such a good experience there. I was not from the Bloomington/Normal area and felt that it was hard to make connections. I got involved with PTK and the Honors Program my second semester freshman year and I always looked forward to the days that we met. I was able to receive a better education and get the most out of community college years by joining the Honors Program. I later transferred to Illinois State; you get direct admission into their Honors Program so that helped me a lot. One of my roommates this year was someone I met through Honors at HCC! So, the connections you make here can be long lasting."
