Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy
Description: Heartland awards credit to students who demonstrated proficiency in an language other than English. Students must meet the specific requirements set by the high school.
Submit Scores: Submit an Official Illinois high school transcript with the Seal of Biliteracy or Commendation listed on the transcript
Expiration: Three academic years after graduation from high school
Credit acceptance: Students may be granted a max of 30 credits or 50% of their program plan. In order for prior learning credit to be posted to an account, students must be in a HCC degree seeking program.
The Records Office will only post prior learning credit relevant to your HCC degree. Posting irrelevant credit could negatively impact your financial aid and/or veterans benefits. Please contact Financial Aid for more information at FinAid@heartland.edu
Transferability: Seal of Biliteracy may only be applicable to your program at Heartland and may not transfer. Please consult your transfer institution about transferability.
- Commendation towards Biliteracy is equivalent to the first two semesters of college level foreign language for a total of eight credits.
 - Seal of Biliteracy is equivalent to the third or fourth semesters of college level foreign language for a total of eight credits.
